RANCH MECHANIC / ranch hand
Position Announcement: Sieben Live Stock Co. Ranch Mechanic / RANCH HAND
Duration: Position is year-round, full-time
Effectiveness areas:
Ranch equipment and vehicles are operational and well-maintained
Ranch buildings and infrastructure well-maintained
High range and hay meadow integrity from effective weed control strategies
Shop is well-organized and well-run
All other team members have the proper equipment and tools to fulfill their job.
Job duties
Keep all ranch equipment serviced and operational
Stay within repairs budget
Manage shop and ranch supplies
Order parts and coordinate supply logistics
Weed and crop spraying
Skillfully operate heavy machinery, including D-6 Cat, tandem axle dump truck, road grader and excavator
Irrigation infrastructure maintenance
Maintain ranch roads, operate road grader, haul and spread gravel, plow snow, etc.
Assist with livestock care and production events when necessary
Animal husbandry – specifically care for sheep flock, guard dogs, locker lambs, and bulls
Engineering and job tool development
Job tool support
General maintenance and upkeep of ranch infrastructure:
Welding and Fabrication
Electrical and plumbing repair
Carpentry skills

The successful candidate must have the following work-related skills and abilities:
High mechanical aptitude and passion for anything from small gasoline engines to large diesel tractors
Skillfully operate heavy machinery, including D-6 Cat, tandem axle dump truck, road grader and excavator
Proficient in welding and fabrication
Haying and farming experience, including no-till
Experience with center pivot, wheel line, and hand line irrigation
Ability to lift at least 50 pounds
Willingness and ability to work long hours and do rigorous physical work
Basic reading, writing, and computer skills
Bilingual English/Spanish a plus

Housing: Well-maintained 3-bedroom, 2-bath house provided in private setting approximately 25 miles south of Cascade, MT.
